knock
Knock on your desk or laptop to trigger any command. It listens through the built-in microphone, works out where and how you knocked (single, double, triple), and analyses the audio locally without recording it.
A small version
A small version of the project. The full one is linked below.
How it works
- 01A knock is a short, sharp burst of energy. The detector measures the loudness of the microphone signal many times a second, tracks the room’s background level, and calls it a knock when the loudness jumps well above that level.
- 02Knocks close together are grouped: one is a single knock, two within a moment a double, three a triple. Each command is bound to a pattern.
- 03Where you knocked shows up in the sound. A desk, a palm rest and a lid ring at different pitches, so the average frequency of the burst (its spectral centroid) tells them apart. Teach each zone with three knocks and the demo picks the nearest one. The Linux tool runs this same idea on the laptop microphone.
